I have over 20 years experience in recruitment and Talent Acquisition, both in agency and in-house, hiring people from entry level right through to C-Suite. The innovation in Biotech is breath-taking and the passion that people apply to their work makes for fascinating conversation.

Why Biotech?

I first started working in the life sciences sector several years ago as a Recruitment Manager for a CRO in central London. I was curious about the industry because of the sense of mission that people in the industry seemed to have, more-so than I had seen in the individuals I had worked with in other industries. My curiosity was rewarded. I discovered a rich industry where passion for the work and a sense of ambition and discovery are the main motivators for managers and candidates alike.

Making a difference

My experience in the industry has been in an environment where I managed all Talent Acquisition (clinical and non-clinical) into every department. Working with doctors new to industry, graduates new to the world of work or experienced, accomplished and established scientists across all disciplines was fascinating and I found myself on a steep learning curve. I was able to bring my many years of recruitment experience to:

  • improve the quality of hire and reduce time to hire
  • establish a structure for planning and forecasting recruitment to key departments to ease the pain of recruiting in a purely reactive manner

A personal mission

I’m a firm believer in the value of diversity in any organisation. In the past I’ve successfully introduced measures to eliminate unconscious bias and promote equity and inclusion at work. It’s imperative that we continue to challenge our perceptions and attitudes on a daily basis to identify where we are able to improve. I am a mentor to young people from under-privileged backgrounds looking for pathways into fulfilling jobs.
